Talk to Me Thursday ft. A. S. Wilson

This Thursday and every Thursday Hopeful Heartbreakers hosts Talk To Me Thursday and our featured author was A.S. Wilson. In her live discussion she answered my questions, and a few of the readers questions so we could get to know her and her work a little better. Scroll down and see what she had to say. Don’t forget to check out her work and leave a review!

1. Are you a full-time or part-time author? How does that affect your writing?

I'm a part-time author. I'd love to be a full-time author someday. Being a part-time author means that I have to fight for time to do my writing. Of course, it's worth the fight.

2. What kind(s) of writing do you do?

I write contemporary romance books.

3. What’s the biggest thing that people think they know about your genre that isn’t so?

I think people mistakenly believe that romance is all flowers and frills. Really, a lot of romance authors are exploring heavy issues, like mental health and abuse. Some of the stories are light-hearted, and I think that's needed sometimes. But a lot of our stories are about love prevailing despite the real obstacles that a lot of people face in real life.

4. Is there anything about the writing life you think is misunderstood by the public?

I think people may not understand how deeply connected authors can get to our characters and work while we're creating.

5. How many books have you written?

Well, I have six published books. I've written two others--they're sitting on my hard drive until I figure out what to do with them!

6. If someone is brand new to your work, what book do you think they should start with?

Start with Guard My Heart, unless you don't like to read novellas. If you prefer a novel, try Forever With You.

7. What’s the title of your most recent book?

Guard My Heart.

8. How did you come up with the title of the book?

The hero and heroine in the book are protectors. They're all about shielding other people from harm. As it turns out, they can find the protection they both also need in each other. But up until the heroine realizes that, she's got her guard up!

9. What’s the back of the book summary?

Reese and Link never had it easy. Both are products of childhoods riddled with violence and abuse, and neither has entirely left the past behind. As a real estate assistant, Reese contents herself with assisting others in attaining the American dream. Construction worker Link labors day-in and day-out to build solid structures that will stand the test of time. When the two of them collide, sparks fly instantaneously. Their love for each other grows exponentially until old wounds rise to the surface and tragedy strikes. Will they be able to remain open to the possibilities of love, or will they choose instead to guard their own hearts?

10. Tell us about the main characters.

Reese and Link have experienced trauma in their childhoods, and the things that they've witnessed have stuck with them. Reese refuses to take risks, and Link can't stand the idea of any harm coming to someone he loves. They both have to face their fears on their journey to love.
