Why we do what we do

  • 10.5% of African American kindergartners met the reading readiness benchmark in the 2018-2019 school year.

  • 28% of African American children represent the illiterate demographic in the United States

  • In 2019, the proficiency rate for African American students in 8th-grade language arts was 36.9%.

  • 61.6% of African American children aged 6-8 years had access to reading materials at home in 2017.

Mission/Vision

Hopeful Heartbreakers' s mission is to engage in literary advocacy by highlighting and promoting African American independent authors to readers, providing literary services to African American authors, and donating literature to low income populations and charitable causes.

 

HHB's Literary Donations & Charities nonprofit organization's vision is focused on children and literacy. This organization aims to inspire a love for reading in children from all walks of life, regardless of their background or circumstances. By fostering a community that values literacy, this nonprofit seeks to empower children to reach their full potential and become lifelong learners.
