Interview with Charae Lewis

Where did you get your love of books/storytelling/reading/writing/etc come from?

CL: My best friend brought Zane’s Addicted to school one day in high school. I read it and loved it. From there, I fell in love with urban fiction and found myself reading any book that came from the genre.

Any author(s) that you feel influenced your writing?

CL: I love Danielle Santiago, Keisha Ervin, Takerra Allen, and Tracy Brown have all had a huge influence in my writing. Especially Danielle.

Name 3 authors you'd like to collaborate with?

CL: Hmm... that’s a hard one. The one person that comes to mind is Dominique Thomas. I would have to think of the others.

What are your top 3 favorite books of all time?

CL: Torn Keisha Ervin, G Spot Noire, Heaven’s Hell Takerra Allen.

How do you research for your books?

CL: Google and YouTube has saved my writing life ☺️

What is your work schedule like when you're writing?

CL: I love writing during the day, so I can have my evenings to myself. Surprisingly, my words do not flow at night 🥴

If you could tell your younger writing self anything, what would it be?

CL: I wish I could tell my younger writing self not to take that long break. I started writing in 2011, published my first book in 2012, and took a pause until 2015. I wished I would’ve kept going but I feel like it worked out in the long run.

Which one of your books is your favorite?

CL: My absolute favorite book of mine has to be Cold Case Love.

What are you working on now?

CL: I’m wrapping up my We Could Never Be series.
