1. What Inspires Your Stories?
Can you share some of the key inspirations behind your latest book? Are there specific experiences, people, or places that have influenced your writing?
Real life. I’m heavily rooted in Black love and all the messy, beautiful moments in between. My characters are stitched from late-night convos and soulful music.
Character Development Process
How do you go about developing the characters in your stories? Do you have a particular method for bringing them to life, and how do you ensure they resonate with your readers?
I don’t just write characters—I live with them. They talk back, change the plot, and steal the whole show. I build them from the inside out: flaws, love languages, trauma, joy. If they don’t feel real to me, they won’t feel real to you.
3. Challenges and Triumphs
What has been the most challenging aspect of writing this book, and how did you overcome it? Conversely, what moment in the writing process brought you the most joy or satisfaction?
The hardest part? Staying emotionally honest when the story cuts too close to home. But I push through because I know someone needs to read it. The best part? That one scene that makes me cry and smile at the same time. That’s when I know I got it right.
4. Advice for Aspiring Writers
What advice would you give to aspiring writers who are looking to publish their first book? Are there any lessons you've learned that you wish you had known from the start?
Write like nobody’s watching. Then rewrite like your heart depends on it. Don’t chase trends—chase truth. And protect your voice… it’s the most valuable thing you got.
5. Where can readers learn more about you and your books?
What are your social media handles? Do you have an author website? Do you have a platform for exclusive content?
I have an exclusive Patreon where I share my current works in progress, exclusive stories, and give first dibs on restocks. https://bit.ly/42VZp7V My website: evelynlatrice.com IG: https://bit.ly/3UgwrLG FB: https://bit.ly/4fCbOmR
