Book Review on How to Love by Sabrina B. Scales

Joletta is a complicated woman, but when she has a one-night stand with Skoby, she's met her match. Skoby wasn't looking for a one-night stand, he's looking for long-term. When he lays eyes on Joletta he knows she's exactly what he needs. If only he could get her to see things his way. This story embodies "the best thing I never knew I needed."

Joletta has abandonment issues. Her real mother left her at an early age, leaving her in her grandmother's care. Mama, her grandmother, is the only mother she knows. We, the readers, are left to assume that her fear of attachment stems from that abandonment. Jo meets Skoby at a party she's bartending and has some of the best sex she's ever had, and she wants to leave it as just that, but Skoby has other plans.

Skoby is a man that's used to getting everything he wants. So, when Joletta decides she wants to keep things as just sex, he's confused. Used to dealing with women that are completely smitten with him, he can't understand why Joletta is giving him such a hard time. Over the course of the novel Skoby has to ask himself is this chase even worth it.

This book was filled with some of the nastiest sex scenes I've ever read, and I loved every minute of it! My favorite characters in this story was Gam, Skoby's grandmother, and Krissi, Skoby's daughter. Gam was a funny, tell it like it is grandmother, I appreciated her in this story. Krissi was an old woman living in a kid's body. She needed Joletta just as much as Joletta needed her. If you're looking for a story about breaking down barriers in order to love and heal, this book is definitely for you.
